Where’s the UK’s Claims Capital?
Drivers in the South East are the most likely to have full no claims bonus according to research by Bell. On the other hand, the North West sees the most drivers with zero no claims bonus.
Part of the Admiral Group, Bell, which specialises in saving money for drivers with zero no claims bonus, looked at over 80,000 drivers and compared their claims records. When looking at areas of the UK where most drivers have full no claims bonus, the South East tops the list followed by East Anglia and the South West. At the other end of the list are the North West, Yorkshire and the West Midlands which have the most drivers with zero no claims bonus.
Bell managing director, Sue Longthorn, commented, “Although drivers in the South East have the highest incidence of full no claims, it doesn’t necessarily make them safer drivers that those in the North West, as it is not only accidents that leave people with zero no claims. People with zero no claims bonus can include newly qualified drivers, those that have been named drivers on someone else’s policy, ex-company car drivers, or those that have been hit by an uninsured driver.”
Bell also looked at the types of car most likely to be driven by people with varying amounts of claims bonus. The makes of car most likely to be driven by drivers with zero no claims bonus are Fiat, Rover and Citroen, and for drivers with full no claims bonus, the most popular makes are Jaguar, Volvo and Mercedes.
Sue Longthorn, continued, “The cars driven by people with full no claims bonus are at the more prestigious end of the market, so maybe, as a result of this they drive them more carefully – hence their full no claims bonus.”
